2007 Overview

In 2007 the Crowne Plaza took inspiration from an eclectic set of individuals as it celebrated the very best in ‘doing it my way’ attitude.

ThinkTank™ recognised that the ideas of tomorrow aren’t being debated in committees, devised in focus groups, or workshopped at any corporate retreats. They’re being forged by visionary thinkers who aren’t afraid to suffer criticism, ruffle a few feathers, or go it alone if need be.

Known as “The Crowne Plaza Mavericks”, this group of visionary business leaders were selected for their fresh, forward-thinking approach and subsequent success in their field of business.

Through a series of intimate events, these influential figures offered an insight into the tools that they use to stay ahead of the game, as well as providing practical advice and inspiration.

Mavericks

  • Carl Honore

    Writer

As proponent of the Slow Movement, Carl took us on a journey “In Praise of Slow”. During the evening, Carl encouraged attendees to evaluate their lifestyles, inspiring them to make their business and leisure time more productive and to take more enjoyment out of the everyday, be it spending time with family and friends or getting the most out of their business relationships – including the benefits of slow sex!

  • Dixie Dansercoer

    Explorer

Although their lifestyles were, quite literally, polar opposites, it was amazing how much Dixie and Carl had in common. During the evening with Dixie, our guests were treated to a surprising, funny and heart-touching look at life from the North and South Poles and it should come as no surprise at how the isolation of an Arctic expedition gives you plenty of time to reflect on the key themes of motivation, inspiration and problem solving.

  • Peter Lohmeyer

    Actor/Entertainer

Peter is one of the most noted and charismatic German actors for years. An influential and outspoken personality within the German film industry, Peter has naturally gravitated towards characters which reflect his strong sense of independence and originality. Peter provided our guests with a humorous insight into the business life of an actor and how, by sticking to your principles, and making bold career choices, you can still become successful.

  • Mario Biondi

    Jazz Musician

Mario has been breaking the mould since he was first catapulted to fame with the release of his single ‘This Is What You Are’ and we were delighted to ask him to complete the line-up of internationals Mavericks in 2007. Mario treated the audience to a journey through his life, the decisions he faced to stay true to his passions and his beliefs, how the path less trodden has taken him to a place he could only ever have dreamed of, with influential songs highlighting key moments.
